Sharing Session and Expert Lecture with Prof. Niwat Sriwasdi, from Khon Kaen University, Thailand

On Friday, June 21, 2024, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) hosted a highly anticipated sharing session and expert lecture by its academic community, especially chemistry education lecturers. The event featured Prof. Niwat Srisawasdi from Khon Kaen University, Thailand, who presented the topic of Technology, Pedagogy, and Content (TPACK) and Teacher Professional Development. Prof. Niwat's presence provided in-depth knowledge and experience sharing on how TPACK can be effectively applied in educational contexts, particularly in chemistry teaching.

Prof. Niwat began the session by explaining the concept of TPACK, which is the integration of three main domains: technology, pedagogy, and content. He illustrated how a deep understanding of these three domains can enrich the learning process and address various challenges faced in modern education. Throughout his expert lecture, he emphasized the importance of using technology as a tool to improve the quality of teaching and facilitate more interactive and effective learning. One of the main focuses of the event was the application of TPACK in chemistry education through examples of how technology can be used to teach complex chemical concepts. He demonstrated how to utilize digital simulations and educational software to clarify chemical experiment concepts, which in turn can make the learning process more engaging and understandable for students.

Furthermore, Prof. Niwat also discussed professional development strategies for lecturers, including ongoing training and experiential learning. He explained how lecturers can continuously update their skills and stay relevant to technological advances and the latest teaching methodologies. This discussion provided new inspiration for chemistry education lecturers at UNY to explore innovative ways to teach and to improve their technical and pedagogical skills through various professional development programs.

The event was attended by a large number of lecturers and academics from various disciplines, all of whom enthusiastically participated in the interactive sessions and in-depth discussions moderated by Prof. Niwat. Participants were given the opportunity to ask Prof. Niwat directly about the challenges they face in their teaching practices and received valuable feedback for improvement. Overall, this event was not only an opportunity to learn from an international expert, but also an important platform for building professional networks and strengthening collaborations between academics at UNY and international partners. Prof. Niwat Srisawasdi successfully provided invaluable and inspiring insights, which he hopes will inspire lecturers to continue developing themselves and improving the quality of their teaching. Through this event, UNY demonstrated its commitment to raising educational standards and supporting the professional development of its educators, thus contributing to the advancement of education in Indonesia.
